I sought Dr. Brooke’s support as an ND and acupuncturist while I went through fertility treatments (IVF mostly) at a major medical university clinic in New York City. I had seen many MD doctors but all ignored the relationship of my fertility to chronic health issues, which I now understand were related. What amazes me now is that Dr. Kalanick has been my only doctor who helped me with very painful periods and other severe PMS conditions (such as feeling depressed or anxious, feeling foggy headed, and having difficulty sleeping). My MDs admittedly lacked tools to help with these issues. We addressed those successfully and upon Dr Brooke’s suggestion I was worked up for endometriosis, which I in fact had and my other doctors missed it completely.
In the past I’d needed frequent antibiotics to various infections, but with Dr Brooke’s help I don’t suffer in any of those ways anymore, unless I fall back into old patterns. She helped me change my diet and encouraged more consistent exercise to support body-brain chemical balance. And she helped me balance my blood sugar for more sound sleep. During the time I have been working with Dr. Kalanick, my health has markedly improved all around and I feel better able to continue to pursue fertility treatments.

Over 100 pounds lost & counting! It is hard to know where to begin as I have struggled with being over weight my entire life. I finally said, “enough” and sought Dr. Kalanick’s help. I thought I knew what to eat since I have read all the articles, attended meetings, done Weight Watchers, etc, for years but the puzzle finally made sense with Brooke’s gentle guidance. She tailored a program for my body’s hormonal needs and never once did I feel guilty or like a failure for not doing my program perfectly. Brooke was always patient and took the extra time to explain about my hormonal imbalances and how the body will hold fat. It’s unbelievable to me how well this is working…I can already see changes. In the first 10 days I lost 6 pounds and during the first month I lost 15 pounds. My face is totally clear, it hasn’t been like this since the 10th grade! I have a million times more energy than before, I am less irritable and I even sleep better – who knew! I had sugar cravings at first (which you said was normal in the beginning), but I didn’t really have the desire to eat any and break my program. This way of eating is like a miracle for me. I never thought I would be able to stop feeling like food is a drug. I think about eating in a completely different way now. Like, I don’t WANT to eat things that are bad for me because they aren’t efficient for my body and because they won’t make me feel good if I eat them. I came to Dr. Kalanick at a time when I was very frustrated. I had been working with a trainer for 2 years and while I had made significant progress I was just unable to reach my weight/body fat goals. I so enjoyed working with you on my weight loss and you didn’t make me weigh in every Monday morning or some such strict thing like that – your approach was more that of positive reinforcement and a constant “how is it going?”. I still take a handful of supplements everyday and I feel great. I’ve changed my eating habits to a healthier plateful of food that is consciously chosen (lean meats, vegetables, cheese, yogurts, nuts etc). I do have bread or pasta now and then – but I watch the portion versus feeling guilty about eating it at all. I guess that’s what you taught me best – choices! I love coffee so I drink decaf more often but make sure (likewise with alcohol) for every drink of caffeine or alcohol I have a big glass of water. Hydrating myself was another thing you taught me and I try to do that as much as possible. The exercise was as much a part of the weight loss as the diet and you worked well with my trainers. The combination of your insight, enthusiasm, and guidance really helped me reach my goal despite my traveling so much for work. I always loved when you would ask me “how is it going?”….I would say something like “I’m down 25 pounds – my clothes are falling off me!” And you would say, “doesn’t it feel great?” And it does! I am planning to do the Danskin Triathlon this August here in Seattle. Without you and my trainer I would never be able to even consider this!
