As You Resolve for 2015, Celebrate All You Did BETTER in 2014

January 1, 2015

Happy New Year! This is one of my favorite times of year because I love leveling up, getting BETTER and New Year’s is all about that. Setting an intention, goal or resolving to do more, to do BETTER in the coming year. And I love that.

But you know what I really need to do BETTER next year? Appreciate how far I’ve come, how much I’ve already accomplished. And I’d bet you do as well. We are so hard on ourselves, expecting perfection and often feeling terrible about ourselves if we fail to achieve it. We are so clear on what we still need to work on, where we’re falling short and often give only a fleeting thought to what we’ve already done.

Today is New Year’s Day and while I am 100% here for you as you try to do even more in 2015, take a moment today to appreciate and revel in how much you’ve accomplished in 2014. You deserve that today. And you know what? This doesn’t just feel good, it will actually make it easier for you to do BETTER in 2015 because you will have so much proof of how successful you actually are. OK, I’ll start 🙂

Here are a few of my favorite posts from this year and some ways that I transcended stuff that used to hold me back:

In 2014 I became a mother for the second time and learned some big time lessons on accepting where I’m at in this moment without resignation.

Practicing what I preach about it being OK to want more for yourself and your body while still loving what it is at this moment. This was my cure for my case of the In-Betweens. Tough place to be huh? Earlier this year I spoke at my first fitness conference and had all my body image issues come screaming to the forefront.

Instead of doing what I’d have done in the past which would’ve been to say no, I said yes and brought what I had to offer to the table. I practiced what I teach my three year old: being brave. Which I tell her is being scared and doing it anyway. This is one of my favorite posts of the year, Why We Have To Stop Feeling Fat. I got another dose of that lesson and took it with even more stride when I spoke at the Women’s Fitness Summit just about 2 months postpartum as part of the Girls Gone Strong Advisory Board.

This post was another that I loved to write and to share about how all women belong in the gym, to feel strong and to be part of the fitness community. I shared a few key tools for success on my blog this year like Sustain & Sabotage Foods and how to get more WILLpower. I also shared my disdain for people telling me not to be Superwoman.

These blogs were among my most popular of 2014 and it’s always so incredible to me to see what you all resonate with and it makes me so grateful to have you all here reading what I write.

One of my prouder moments was having this article I wrote on brocooli vs. the bagel for thyroid health be shared over 500 times on Facebook. That was a first for anything I’ve ever written! And finally, one of the best parts of this work for me is sharing my journey like I did here in this post on breastfeeding and the struggle to lose weight postpartum.

I used to be terrified of sharing anything that made me look less than perfect, showed my struggle or made me look like every other new mom: tired, frazzled and feeling frumpy. I feel a hundred pounds lighter having let that stuff go and I truly believe I’m of no service to you all if I’m not sharing my bad days as much as my good.

I’m here now 100% authentically and I couldn’t do that if you all weren’t so wonderful!

Your feedback that you benefit from hearing what I go through as I figure this stuff out right along with you has made me brave enough to keep putting it out there. Thank you!

I hope you all take the time today to look back at the ups and downs, the trials and triumphs, the good and the bad and feel amazed at all you’re capable of. Use this as fuel to do even BETTER in 2015. To help make all those resolutions you’ve got for the New Year easy, I put together a free 7 day habit change program.
